By Air

Many airports now serve the area.  The closest and largest is Toulouse (Blagnac) which is an hour east of Auch. There has, however, been a huge expansion in low cost flights to the South West of France over the last few years and there are now flights from the UK and Ireland to 7 airports that are within two and a half hours. The following table gives a list of those airports together with the approximate driving time and road distance to Peyloubere.

Airport Approximate Driving Time Approximate Road Distance DSC_0509.JPG (2984785 bytes)
Toulouse One hour 76 km
Tarbes - Lourdes One hour 78 km
Pau One and a half hours 105 km
Carcassonne Two hours 175 km
Bordeaux Two hours or more 220 km
Bergerac Two and a half hours 168 km
Biarritz Two and a half hours 260 km

Although Toulouse and Bordeaux are by far the largest of the above airports, they all have international facilities such as car hire and cash dispensers.

The details of those airlines flying to the above airports changes every few weeks. Timetables are sometimes seasonal and in some cases there may only be one flight a day, or flights on only some days of the week so be sure to check with the airline concerned for up to date information.

By Rail

The Motorail (Autotrain) runs from Paris to Toulouse and Tarbes throughout the holiday season. Some summers there has also been a service direct from Calais to Toulouse.

There is a regular service between Paris (Austerlitz) and Toulouse throughout the year, including the night train with either first or second class couchettes.

Tickets are available from many agencies. The following are the links to the official websites.

The quickest route between Calais and Toulouse via Paris is 900 km and takes 9 1/2 hours.  The route is by autoroute - Calais, Paris, Orleans, Tours, Poitiers (Futuroscope makes a good stopover!), Bordeaux then leave autoroute A62 at Agen and take the N.21 to Auch.

There are several routes using a combination of autoroute and RN roads which pass through wonderful scenery and many lovely towns.  It is recommended that two days are taken for these with an overnight stop around Orleans or at Poitiers.  The following give an outline of just a few of the possible routes.
